Among the various festival makar sankranti is one of the famous harvest festival. As January is first month of the year whereas makar sankranti is the second festivals of India celebrated not only all over India but also celebrated by peoples in South East Asian Countries. Makar Sankranti depicts the beginning of the harvest season which is transition of Sun into Capricorn on its celestial path. It is a day when sun begins its journey northwards. Apart from this there are many reasons of this festival such as agricultural environment, cultural background and climate. Makar Sankranti is among the most auspicious festivals of India which is celebrated with great devotion and fervour in all over India.

Makar sankranti 2010 is on 14th January 2010, Thursday. From this day as sun begins to move to northwards means to enjoy a new life with bright light and begin to grow in purity, wisdom and knowledge as sun removes the darkness of delusion. Apart from Makar Sankranti there is another festival which is one of the first festival of India named Lohri, it is a mark of culmination of winter and it is one of the famous festival of north India.

13th day of January is the date when lohri is celebrated with full joy and fervour. It is a festival of fertility and the spark of life. It is one of the famous festivals of Punjabis which depicts the end of winter and the coming of spring. Lohri consist a wish to Agni, and it usually comprises gazak, moongphali and til as prasad which is passed to each other to take and wish to agni for their wellness and prosperity in the new upcoming year. Lohri songs play a vital role in celebration with full fun and enjoy that consists beats of dhol and children sing and dance and finally asking for the Lohri prasad. Altogether India is a country of multi religion people where every one celebrates multi caste events and festivals with great fervour and devotion.
