Rameswaram is the town in the Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu. Rameswaram is located about 50 Kms from Mannar Island in Srilanka. Rameshwaram is connected to India by the Pamban Bridge. Rameswaram Dham is the name of one of the other Dhams placed in India and the other Dhams lie at different regions of India. The four Dhams consist of two Vaishnavite, one Shaivite and one mixed site. Rameshwaram Dham is one among the other Dhams where you can pray only God Shiva. God Vishnu is been worshiped in other Dhams and it is appeared in one way or the other. The temples which comes under Char Dhams are been dedicated by the Hindu followers to God Vishnu. The Char Dhams lays at south, north, east and west regions of India.

The town name is Ramanathapuram district. The Rameshwaram Dham is also known as €Varanasi of the South€. You will find lot of Vaishnavs in the city. It is this place where Lord Rama offered thanks to Lord Shiva. Now Rameshwaram has become a tourist destination of South India. History says that the temple lies at the area where Rama prayed God Shiva before his attack on lanka to rescue his wife Sita from the hands of Ravana. This is the place where Lord Rama built a bridge called Ram Sethu to Srilanka. This Dham is considered to be the highly devote place for the Hindu pilgrimage. Thousands of Pilgrims visit this place every year.
